Moving Tip: Separate and Inventory Your Items

Hi, Shawn Cook with Preferred Moving and Storage, agent for Wheaton Van Lines. We’re located in Harrison Township, Michigan (Macomb County).

Today, we are in the home of a customer of ours in Oakland Township, Michigan (Oakland County). We are moving them from West Bloomfield, Michigan, to our storage facility in Harrison Township, Michigan. Today, I’m here with Michael, a driver of ours, one of our top drivers. And he is doing the inventory process, which is one of the initial processes in the move. What he is doing when he inventories is separating items that may go to different directions. For instance, the customer has a move point to Illinois, and one going to Virginia. Items are going to be inventoried separately with different colored tags. This is detrimental, because we want to make sure that we are itemizing everything that is going on our truck. So when it is delivered, it will also be itemized and checked in as it comes off the truck. Again, a very important process. Each box or piece of furniture, is stickered, inventoried and itemized accordingly.

If you are considering a local move, long distance move or an international move, consider Preferred Moving and Storage.   Visit our website at www.preferredmoving.net or give us a call at 800-837-4600.

Moving Tips – Rug Runners and Carpet Shield Protect Your Floors When Moving

Hi, Shawn Cook, Preferred moving and storage, agent for Wheaton Van Lines. We’re in one of my customer’s homes in Bloomfield, Michigan (Oakland County). What we have going on today is very detrimental. You always want to lay floor protection. What it does is creates pathways for our movers to work. It cuts down on traffic on the remainder of the homes  flooring. So, what Don is doing is laying down our rug runners. Again, creating pathways. Coming in from the front door to the bedroom, to the kitchen. It’s very detrimental in keeping less traffic throughout  the home. It’s going to be more ideal for anybody in a situation where they’re moving. So if you would come over here with me. For carpets, for colored carpets, you don’t want traction on these things. They’re not supposed to move, when any homeowner’s moving in. So we want to keep the traction down as much as possible.

Jason is laying what we call a carpet shield. It’s a very nice shield. You’ll see it in model homes, brand new homes. They put them down when they show the homes.  They utilize this and so do we as well. So, a good process…it shows the homeowners that we do care about their home and their items. And we’ll do whatever it takes to make their move successful.

Local and Long Distance Movers in Michigan

Hi, Shawn Cook, Preferred Moving and Storage, where every move is an easy move. I’m in the back of one of our straight trucks. They’re a 26 foot box truck, all air ride.

What you see here, pad pile. What do the pads do? The pads either protect the furniture. Or we put it around to protect the truck and everything to ensure the ride of the furniture is smooth. Most of our trucks are going to be equipped with ladders, dollies, four-wheel dollies. We also have carpet protection. Most of our trucks. Actually, all of our trucks are protected fully. We have spare boxes in case a customer needed a few extra boxes. We have extra boxes, extra tape.  But again, the dollies, the ladder, all this is detrimental in completing the move process. The dollies will bring items to the truck from the house, or from the truck to the house. The ladder helps us load. Again, when you load a truck, you start with heavier items on the bottom.  And you go up to lighter items. We call, what we would call, the load itself is called a tier. The tiers would consist of, whether it be dressers,  middle sized boxes, maybe some chairs, and then what we call chowder, and that’s some moving terminology. But it would be lighter items such as broomsticks,  skis, anything like that. And all these items, again, are pad wrapped. So all this stuff would be utilized. Alright, if you have a full truck, all these pads will be utilized. They will be done, so. To give you guys a look into what the inside of a moving truck looks like. Again, it should be clean.  One thing I’m very detrimental on in our company, Preferred Moving & Storage, is that we keep our trucks swept out every night. So, this is a clean night.
